Cycling is at the heart of adventure and learning at Dolphin House.
Through exciting partnerships and nationally recognised programmes, we deliver high-quality cycling sessions to children and young people across South Ayrshire, developing confidence, skills, and a lifelong love of riding.
Bikeability Training
We are proud to deliver Bikeability Scotland across local schools, equipping children with the essential skills they need to cycle safely and confidently on roads. Our Bikeability sessions are delivered by qualified instructors and coordinated by our in-house Bikeability Coordinator, Peter.
What to Expect:
- Build core cycling skills
- Understand road safety and basic highway code
- Gain independence and confidence in everyday cycling
We offer Level 1, 2, and 3 Bikeability sessions depending on the school and age group, with tailored delivery to suit class needs.
Rock Up and Ride
Our Rock Up and Ride programme makes cycling accessible and exciting for children of all ages. Funded to support active travel and healthy lifestyles, this programme is perfect for those just starting out and those ready to take it further.
Learn to Ride
Short, supportive sessions to build confidence and early cycling skills: These introductory sessions are filled with fun games and activities and range from balance techniques to cycling freely around set out routes and tracks. These sessions are for children who are at an early stage of learning to ride a bicycle. Participants are not required to bring their own bicycle but are encouraged to do so if possible. Parents are required to stay and participate, to support their child during the session. All equipment is provided.
- 45-minute sessions for ages 3–5
- 45-minute sessions for 5+
Adventure Rides
For children ready to explore further afield and build real-world cycling confidence:
- 2-hour sessions for ages 8–10 – This is a fun, beginner-friendly ride for younger children new to trail riding. We provide the bicycles and equipment needed.
- 2-hour sessions for ages 11–14 – This is a more adventurous ride. The trail has some tricky climbs and descents to navigate, so recommended only for children with prior experience of off-road riding. We provide the bicycles and equipment needed.
These rides are packed with fun, challenge, and scenic routes designed to develop skill and independence.
Night Bike Rides
Cycling after dark brings a whole new sense of adventure. Try some exciting mountain biking at night led by our experienced instructors. Strap some bright lights to your bike and experience how different and exciting it can be riding in the dark listening to owls and looking up at the stars! We provide all bikes and equipment, but please wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring something to drink, preferably in a bottle that fits into a bike bottle cage.
- 2-hour sessions for ages 8–10
- 2-hour sessions for ages 10–14
All sessions are led by qualified instructors and include bike safety checks, lights, and helmets.
