| As a result of the break-up of Strathclyde Region in 1996 there
is no longer any direct provision of Outdoor Education within South
Ayrshire. However both Outdoor Education and residential experience
are regarded as valuable elements of the curriculum and the personal
and social development of young people.
Dolphin House Statistics
The capacity at the Dolphin House is currently 
- 32 pupils within 7 small dormitories
- 3 staff bedrooms
Up to 26 pupils can also be accommodated in the Cedar Wood Lodge
with a further 6 on the ground floor of the Dolphin House.
The main meeting room in the
Dolphin House acts as both a lecture room and dining room, being
adjacent to the kitchen. Facilities on site include a Souvenir/Tuck
shop, drying rooms, male/female showers, staff room and outdoor
store with meeting area.
The Dolphin House has a Principal and two instructors along with
a housekeeper, cleaner and part-time administrator. The Dolphin
House also has its own transport in the form of minibuses, as most
courses will operate for part of the time outside Culzean Country
Park. All facilities are wheelchair friendly. We have also been
gifted a specialist wheelchair for the beach.
The Dolphin House So Far (2002-2003)
- 30 primary schools (2500+ pupils) - some small rural ones join
together.
- 500 secondary pupils for Advanced Higher Field Work, Language
Weekends, Advanced Higher Art, Team Building & Duke of Edinburgh
- 200 adults for a variety of training courses including: B.E.L.A,
Trail Cycling, Scottish Curling Squad, Teacher’s In-Service
